NIGERIA CONFLICT ASSESSMENTS PROJECT In partnership with USAID, MSI is seeking a team of short term consultants for a 3-4 week project in Nigeria beginning on or about May 3, 2010. USAID has invested significant resources into development programming with an eye to supporting stabilization and conflict resolution. With recognition that there are multiple new and emerging sources of conflict, USAID has requested inter-agency political vulnerability assessments to better understand the nature and the scope of the conflict dynamics. OBJECTIVES The assessment teams will provide a targeted conflict assessment, mapping trends towards existing or potential violence, including key actors; review the impact of existing sector specific programs on the causes and consequences of violence as defined by the conflict assessment teams; and make recommendations about modifications or additions to USAID current portfolio. Another central objective is to work with the Mission and the other U.S Government personnel to delineate the boundaries of what USAID can and cannot hope to realistically accomplish in development programming. REQUIREMENTS Consultants should have a degree in a relevant discipline and experience with and knowledge of the political climate and history of Nigeria as well as an understanding of conflict in Nigeria in at least one of the following regions -Delta (Delta and Rivers states), -North Central (Plateau, Bauchi, Kaduna) -Far North (Borno and Sokoto).
